There are a vast number of different formulas for success.

Here’s another one…

IMAGINATION leads to IDEAS which when WRITTEN DOWN, leads to COMMITMENT, which leads to ACTION, which leads to PROGRESS. Progress leads to DESIRE for completion which leads to MOMENTUM, which leads to SUCCESS.

Most crucially, you have to follow ALL links in the above chain. You must of course keep going. You must know that ALL limitations only EXIST IN THE MIND!

To follow your dreams and make the above chain (or any formula for life) work, you MUST ensure you have ALL your resources available to you.

That’s why clearing your limitations (your ’stuff’) at the unconscious level is such a life changing experience. Clearing your stuff therefore actually becomes part of the chain.

CLEAR YOUR STUFF and your goals get bigger and following the above chain becomes easy and effortless.

Just completed delivering a couple of trainings this weekend - time line therapy and hypnosis practitioner.

Had to share this - I love experiencing this with someone…

Even though I know what this stuff I teach can do, it’s still always an amazing experience to watch people make it work for them. It’s always special and unique to the individual.

Take Sarah, having made amazing changes on her NLP practitioner course (she transformed in front of our eyes!), there was the small matter of an intense phobia of lifts still to deal with.

On this training, we cover the phobia model when used in conjunction with time line therapy techniques (meaning you can clear the phobia when the clients does not know when the phobia started). As she didn’t know where the root cause was, it was the perfect opportunity for Sarah to clear it.

Anyway, you can imagine how Sarah was near a lift before the technique. We gently tested it, telling her we were not even going to open the doors . As is typical she couldn’t get anywhere near! You can imagine how she was - shaking, panicky etc.

Well, then one of Sarah’s fellow students guided her through the technique and like all clients who get amazing results, she was determined to make it work for her and allow herself to let it go.

The results were typical. Sarah went up and down in the lift numerous times, over seven floors. No fear!
In fact I’ve since received a text as she went for another go after the training (because she could!) and said the following on a text…

“…once again I was relaxed in the lift! Check me out!”

Typical results yet always special to witness. How cool is that?

My congrats to Sarah, excellent stuff!

Just a quick note, writing this on the way back from a week of winter sun

Just a quick note, writing this on the way back from a week of winter sun which frankly, had to be done.

So feeling refreshed and in reflective mood, I’ve been really enjoying a book recommended by one of my clients - ‘outliers,’ by Malcolm Gladwell.

It’s a fascinating read about success, or rather people who have achieved the incredible. Examples covered are diverse, from Bill Gates to the Beatles, and essentially Gladwell unravels the myth that geniuses are simply ‘naturally gifted - end of story’.

With case study after case study, all highly entertaining, he points out significant and undeniable factors that make the key difference. Whether it be timing, being presented with a gifted opportunity, or cultural legacy, without these factors it is highly questionable whether the levels of success would have been achieved.

For instance, regarding the fab four, it’s easy just to think of them as a rare collection of talent who did great things, (they obviously were talented). And yet did you know as part of learning the ropes as a band they played in strip clubs in Hamburg? Most notably, this was part of a format in such clubs where bands played continuously (as customers frequently arrived then left), for hours at a time. The Beatles did so for up to eight hours a night, 270 times over an 18 months period. All before they made it big.

This meant that when they got their break, they had performed live an incredible 1200 times- more than most bands do in their whole career!

To quote Philip Norman, author of Beatles biography ’shout’… “they were no good on stage when they went and they were very good when they came back… they sounded like no one else. It was the making of them.”

This chapter, which includes other revealing examples, left me with the re-enforced belief that you should find something you love doing, and find a way to do it as much as you can. Ideally…make a living from it!

Finally, amongst other things the book also cites cultural backgrounds and beliefs as whilst an important part of our history, can sometimes hold us back.

That’s partly why I love what I do, as I help people identify any unwanted beliefs and change them, so they can go on to do great things. And they do.

As for outliers, it will challenge you to make the most of your potential.

Highly recommended.

Stephen

Have you considered how much time do you spend worrying?

Have you considered how much time do you spend worrying? Think about it now, Why not give it a percentage. Is it too much? Too frequent?

It’s really good to reflect on what’s really going on. Now worrying is most certainly fuelled by what’s happening ‘deep down’, such as stored up negative emotions and negative beliefs. Removing these of course will change your life – and worrying becomes suddenly much less relevant!

Also, when you worry you are simply focusing on what you don’t want. In fact to worry, and any emotion that accompanies it (like anxiety), can be viewed as a message to focus on what you want instead.

Remember your unconscious mind is partly using your thoughts as a gauge on how to make you feel & behave (it thinks it’s serving you). So shifting your thinking on to what you want is really important.

Try this…

Think of something you’ve been worrying about, whether it’s happened or not, and ask yourself the following questions…

When I look back on this moment/event in six months time, how will it feel?

On a scale of 1-10 of life events (10 is something major, such as bereavement), what number would I give what I’m worrying about?

You’ll probably find yourself giving scores of less than one, and when you realise it’s a score of say, 0.3, it will give you a lot more perspective.

More perspective means more ability to focus on what you want. Try it today. Then perhaps it’s time to do something about it.

I’ll finish by quoting Winston Churchill…

“When I look back on all the worries I remember the story of the old man who said on his deathbed that he had a lot of trouble in his life, most of which never happened.”

Have a great week!

I ran a practitioner training last week, and we were discussing how people tend to perceive their problems

I ran a practitioner training last week, and we were discussing how people tend to perceive their problems – or their ‘stuff’’.

Because when someone says to you ‘I’m a nervous driver’, ‘I’m depressed’ or even ‘I’m clumsy’, notice how that sounds. It almost sounds like an identity.

To use one of the examples above, the fact is they are not a nervous driver, they just ‘do’ nerves a little too well whilst they’re driving. You see, you can’t have a negative emotion without a thought preceding it. The driver has thought patterns (unconsciously) which cause them to feel nervous. And if you can do nerves well behind the wheel, by the same token, they could do confidence behind the wheel just as effectively.

You just need to interrupt and change the thought pattern - something we did numerous times last week as our practitioners let go of their stuff!

The key point here, is to catch yourself thinking, ‘Oh, that’s just me, I’m…(fill in the blank)’. The reality is it’s not ‘you’, just something you do. And if you can ‘do’ it, that means you can decide to change it. Knowing that is the first step.

as the pace of life for you is probably back to normal

It’s just week 2 after the Christmas break, and as the pace of life for you is probably back to normal, I guess it already seems like ages ago.

Of course the trouble with the speed at which we hit the ground running, is the tendency for people to neglect their own needs. Particularly in light of both work and family pressures.

Even though we consider each new year as a new start, it’s an opportunity that’s often missed.
And yet it’s easy to get the ball rolling. There’s a simple approach to get you started - and it only takes a few minutes. Also it’s important to realise what can seem like the worst time to stop and review, is usually the most appropriate time.

It’s important to reflect on what you’ve done in the last twelve months, and consider where you want to go. Just doing this simple activity for a few minutes can make a difference to your thinking, and therefore your results.

So, just consider these powerful questions…

Firstly, start by thinking about your 2009.

Ask yourself…
What am I proud of in my life from the year of 2009?
What about that made me proud?
What am I most happy about in my life from the year of 2009?
What about that makes me happy?

What did I achieve that is worth celebrating?

And then for 2010…
What specifically do I want to achieve for myself in 2010?
How will I know when I’ve achieved it?
What will my life be like when I’ve achieved what I want?
When I’ve achieved it, how will I celebrate?

And you can add something extra with the questions…
What am I excited about in my life right now? What about that makes me excited? What do I want to create?
These are great questions to get you thinking.

Taking Action.
And finally if you’re feeling less than ideal this week, is it just the ‘January blues’ or is it more realisation that your job (or some other element in your life) is no longer right for you. Perhaps it never was.

So this week, it could be time to STOP…. and ask yourself, is this the year? Is it time to do something about it? Is it time to make key changes in your life?

Of course your life won’t just improve naturally. You have to decide to do something about it.

Because you’re just one tiny step away from starting to move towards your new goals. Why not decide what that step is, and do it today.

Happy New year.

Stephen.
