As the Easter break approaches it’s a good time for some self reflection.
I’ve been reading a Deepak Chopra book of late, entitled ‘Ageless Body; Timeless Mind’.
In it Deepak tells us that it is estimated we have over 90’000 thoughts a day. Quite a number!
He then goes on to say that typically, the average human being repeats around 90% of their thoughts the following day. So two of the greatest spices of life, spontaneity and creativity are greatly reduced!
And when you consider there’s a mind/body connection, that your thoughts have a direct impact on you nervous and immune system, the question has to be…
what are you thinking?
Are you spending more of your time worrying about the future, or past events and how things could have gone better? Are you bogged down by negative thoughts? How is your self talk? Are you taking a self imposed ear bashing on a regular basis?
Or are your thoughts focusing on what you want, as you imagine things going well in the future? Are you good to yourself as you reflect on how you’ve handled situations? Do you hold positive beliefs about your ability to be (and have) what you want?
The fact is your thoughts will generate certain feelings, emotions and body sensations that will either restrict, or empower you. Deepak also says ‘the immune system is always eaves dropping on the mind’.
So this week, why not take some time to reflect on how much of your thinking is empowering you?
It may be you have some limiting beliefs or a build up of negative emotions that are hampering your ability to think positively. On our NLP Practitioner Training we teach you how to remove these (and replace them with new, empowering thought patterns). You also learn how to help others do the same.
For the meantime though, whenever you catch yourself thinking negatively, ask yourself…
‘what do I want instead?’
This simple question quickly shifts your focus. After all, what you focus on, you get more of.
Happy Easter,
Stephen
